Summer is almost here, and it's time to vamp up your beauty routine with the hottest trends of 2023. From stylized brows to strong blush, this season's look is all about making a statement. For my fellow Xennials, many of the looks that are hot for this summer should give you some serious nostalgia.  But, if you are anything like me, you are also wondering how you can make them work for you.  All the hottest trends are really bold this summer, maybe too bold for the average woman.  I mean, don't get me wrong, I am all about some glitter, and I rocked that disco inspired makeup in the late 90's, but I am not a teenager anymore!  And I am not sure my almost 40 year old self can still rock it the same way.  Though I do believe everything has a time and place so maybe for a night out with the girls?  But this summer is definitely not going to be subtle when it comes to beauty - it is go big (and sparkly!) or go home!

Ultra glossy cheekbones are in for summer 2023 and that is a trend I can latch on to!  It is no surprise this look is hot - it is all about radiance and glow. 

To achieve ultra glossy cheekbones, start with a lightweight foundation.  I highly recommend a cream foundation for my over 35 crowd! Then apply a cream blush to the apples of your cheeks.  Lastly, use a liquid highlighter to add a high-shine finish to the tops of your cheekbones. Make sure to blend well for a seamless look. For an extra dewy finish, you can also add a touch of clear lip gloss to the high points of your cheeks. With this look, you'll be ready to shine all summer long!

If you're looking to turn up the drama this summer, the black smokey eye look is the way to go. This classic look is always in style, but for 2023, it's all about making a bold statement. To achieve the perfect black smokey eye, start by applying a black eyeshadow base to your lids and blending it out towards your crease. Then, add a darker shade of black or gray to the outer corners of your eyes, and blend well to create a smoky effect. Finish off with a touch of shimmery eyeshadow on your inner corners and brow bone to add some dimension. For an extra dramatic look, you can also add some false lashes or a winged liner. With the black smokey eye look, you'll be ready to take on any summer night.

Hailey Bieber and Bella Hadid didn't even make their earthly appearance until the later 90's (1996) yet they are all over social media rocking these 90's Supermodel-inspired looks. I'm not complaining, I'm all about some big hair and I love the nude glam makeup.  Think Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, and Christy Turlington - big hair, bold lips, and perfectly groomed brows. To achieve this look, start by creating voluminous hair with loose waves or curls. For makeup, go for a bold lip in shades like red, plum, or berry. Keep your eye makeup simple with a neutral eyeshadow and a classic winged liner. And don't forget to groom your brows to perfection - full and natural is the way to go. This look is all about confidence and making a statement, so go ahead and channel your inner 90's supermodel!

Underpainting is the latest makeup technique that is taking the beauty world by storm.  And according to Vogue, it is the new Contour.  This technique was made popular by makeup artist Mary Phillips and basically is reversing the order in which you apply your makeup.  You apply your contour, blush and concealer first, then your foundation.  I do my underpainting with my Seint palette and highly recommend cream makeup for all my girls over 35.  If you need a color match, send me an email at kalii@kaliisue.com and I will get you set up! Brows have been in for a while.  Those who have been holding on to their thin brows are either going to have to keep waiting for those to make a return. Brows seem to be getting bigger and bolder every day. This is the one summer trend I am not even sure I can try.  Also called a "statement brow" there are lots of ways to pull this look off.  From split brows, to feathered brows, brightly colored brows to glittered brows.  Bleached brows, highlighted brows, and sculpted brows were also all over the runways in 2023.  There are literally no rules with this trend other than your brows should be the focal point of your face and should be bold and loud. 

This trend is all about brightly colored blush and a lot of it!  Whether on the apples of your cheeks or even further back and going up to your temple, bright and bold is in.  To master this trend, you want to let go of the "less is more" thoughts and go all in on the "give me more" thoughts.  Pick a bright colored blush and then go for the one even a little brighter than that.  Choose a lightweight formula whether powder or cream and use a small, round brush to get the color right where you want it.  Then switch to a fluffy brush to blend it out. 

Since all things 90's are in, and in the 90's all things Disco came back again, it only makes sense that those same Disco looks are making another appearance.  That means for some of us, we are living and loving these trends for the 3rd time!  Disco makeup is definitely in for Summer 2023.  This means glitter, embellishments, all the shiny things!  Monochrome looks are hot and you don't have to discriminate on the glitter, it can go everywhere - lips, eyes, cheeks, etc. And metallic is in, too!  I particularly love this look with bold, glitter eyes and a subtle lip, but you have to try it for yourself and decide where you love your sparkle most!

Now, you all know I am ALL IN on this trend!  And how perfect that my Barbie Room is also my makeup room so I can do my Barbie-inspired makeup while looking at my Barbies, I mean, it couldn't be more perfect!  But with the Barbie movie making its debut this summer, it is no wonder that all things Barbie are in.  This look is all about the pinks - light pinks, medium pinks, dark pinks, bright pinks, just pink, pink and more pink.  If you really want to go all out, make sure you go for that satiny skin and sleek hair.  Bonus points if you are blonde!
